Eat Together

Debrief: Sifting, Reviewing, & Discovering Good News Together

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” – Rev 3:20

Take a few minutes to picture a scene where Jesus is inviting you to eat with him. How does that feel?

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” – Luke 14:12-14

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”

Pray: “Lord, who would You have me eat with this week?” Pay attention to any nudges or people who come to mind.
Choose to believe that God is leading you and invite them to eat with you.

“When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him.” – Luke 24:30-31

Find a way to have them recognize that Jesus is present as you eat, maybe through your opening prayer.

After sharing the meal and loving them and listening, ask God if there’s something simple you can say to encourage the person. If it feels right, offer to pray with them before leaving.
